How to take apixaban

It is important to read the patient information leaflet provided with each pack of medicine. Remember to take apixaban regularly as instructed by your doctor, and do not miss a dose. The recommended dose is one tablet of ELIQUIS 2.5 mg twice a day. For example, one in the morning and one in the evening. Try to take the tablets at the same time every day. You should take the first tablet 12 to 24 hours after your operation. If you have had hip replacement surgery you will usually take the tablets for 32 to 38 days. If you have had knee replacement surgery you will usually take the tablets for 10 to 14 days. This medicine should be swallowed with a drink of water. It can be taken with or without food.

Whilst on this medicine, please inform your doctor or dentist that you are taking apixaban if you are having a surgical or dental procedure.

Make sure that you tell your doctor, pharmacist or dentist about any other medicines you are taking, including medicines you have bought yourself in the pharmacy without a prescription (e.g. aspirin) and any herbal remedies you may be taking (e.g. St. John’s Wort).
